Assistive technology and delivery can help provide independence, but it is all useless if the user and their support teams doesn’t know how to use it or properly apply it to their requirements. This is why training is such an important part of any of Adapt-IT’s solutions.

We don’t just offer tech – we also have services to support users in their use of technology! This can take the form of virtual or in person visits, equipment or software trials to get the user used to using tech, and encouragement and support to ensure the user not only learns a lot – but also has fun doing it!

Software Training

Adapt-IT provides training in all the main assistive software products. Once you have purchased a software package, receiving training will help ensure you, as a user, can get the maximum benefit.

Our trainers have extensive experience, with our head trainer, Neil Sleight, having over 20 years’ experience on training with assistive software.

We provide both face-to-face training and virtual training to cater to everybody’s learning style or needs. Our trainers will come to your home, school or workplace and will guide students of all abilities with understanding and patience to drive confidence and instil knowledge.

Have a requirement for larger volumes of software licenses or training? Please contact our friendly team who will be able to understand your full requirement and provide the appropriate pricing.

Young Person Technology Awareness and Usage Training

Many individuals with disabilities will rely on technology to assist them through their life.

The current approach to assistive technology funding systems is based on just in time technology provision, where they will gain access to technology when they need it.

For young people this has a major flaw. It means that the individual must learn the technology while simultaneously taking on board what they are being taught.  This leads to frustration, reduction in the effectiveness of the solutions, and a delay in the user being able to operate at their full potential. Ultimately this holds the young person back and leads to wasted funding and potentially their needs changing as they grow older, having big impacts on their lives and ability to achieve their goals.

Adapt-IT want to alter this trend and provide young people with training and awareness on technology, how to use it and how it will benefit them through their lives, before it becomes critical to them. Our training provides a through term set of virtual and face-to-face training sessions between 30 and 45 minutes exploring all aspects of technology and applications that will support them with their disability and help them build transferable skills that will help them through their lives. Fitting into the curriculum and their interests, each session focusses on building confidence in the use of technology and software so it becomes second nature.

Each session focusses on a particular skill from simply using a tablet or computer through to usage of specialist software. The skills being taught focus on:

  • Technology device awareness and usage training such as tablets and computers.
  • How to stay safe online and protect your information.
  • How to research information of interest.
  • Literacy and numeracy support.
  • Identifying the systems that can support the user.
  • Gamification, using gaming to support technology confidence and skill development.
  • Support with school and homework through mentoring and coaching on how to use the technology and software they have to complete their work.
  • Common software awareness and usage integration such as Office 365 applications.
  • How to use email and collaboration tools such as Teams and Zoom.

The training is based on repetition of tasks through different topics to provide variety and interest while building the critical skills needed.
