Ideal for users with fine motor control problems

For people who use keyboards with keyguards we are pleased to announce the introduction of the the Accuratus 260 Keyguard.

After a long life, the Cherry keyboards that we have used with our keyguards for over 10 years have finally been retired off and are no longer produced by Cherry.

Meet the new keyguard designed to fit the popular Accuratus 260 keyboard.  The Accuratus 260 keyboard has been available for a number of years but now we have a keyguard especially for it.  It is a full size high visibility keyboard which is compatible with all versions of Windows from Windows 95 to Windows 10 and is available with UK and over 15 other foreign layouts.  It has been widely recognised that people with impaired sight often find it easier to work with yellow fonts on a black background.  Also with its sturdy design and contour inclined base, the Accuratus 260 is an extremely comfortable keyboard to work with.  The keyguard has spacious circular holes and ensures that continually pressing the wrong key will become a thing of the past.

The brand new keyguard for the Accuratus 260 is now available.

What is a keyguard?

A keyguard is a plastic or metal cover for your keyboard that sits above the keys with holes or cutouts for just the keys.  They can be very helpful for people with tremors or problems with fine motor control problems.  When it comes to typing, a keyguard can help by preventing you from constantly missing and pressing the wrong key.

How can a keyguard help me?

Have you ever attempted to press the letter ‘s’ for instance and instead ended up with a string of ‘d’s or ‘a’s?  If so, then a keyguard may be for you.  The multiple keys issue can be filtered out by means of the Filter Keys utility which comes free with Windows. But the hitting the wrong key or hitting multiple keys at the same time is eliminated with the keyguard.  You are either pressing the ‘s’, the ‘a’ or the ‘d’, never in between.

Keyguards are particularly useful for people with MND (Motor Neurone Disease), Parkinson’s, Cerebral Palsy and other movement-affecting conditions.  Also because the letters are underneath the keyguard, you can rest your hands on the guard in between typing, making it a useful accessory for those with muscular problems such as multiple sclerosis.

But of course there are many different keyboards, so if you are planning on purchasing a keyguard for your favourite keyboard then unfortunately you probably won’t be able to. There are only a few specific keyboards for which there are matching keyguards available in the UK.
